12 months for two wives

A St Catherine man who married twice without being divorced was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in the St Catherine Circuit Court recently.

He is Peter Wellesley ,a taxi operator of Thompson Pen in Spanish Town, who is charged with two counts of bigamy.

When Wellessley appeared before Justice Lennox Campbell he was given 12 months on each count.

The sentences are to run concurrently so Wellesley will only serve 12 months.

The court heard evidence that the accused was attempting to get married a third time without getting a divorce from any of his previous wives.

When the wife to be, got information that he was already married she contacted the police.

A report was made and he was charged with two counts of bigamy following investigations.
