|||||
Dancehall artiste Spice and Guinness assistant brand manager Jermaine Bibbons at Saturday's Greatness In The Streets party in Clarendon. - Contributed A sea of patrons came out to celebrate with dancehall's princess, Spice, and the Guinness Greatness In The Streets team on Saturday night in Clarendon. The Greatness In The Streets promotion which took place in the courtyard at the Kansas City Bar, Swansea, tightly accommodated the hundreds who turned out to be a part of the celebration. As a great appetiser, the early part of the night was inundated with some of the best musical selections by the Flava Unit selectors via the unique Guinness Mobile Music Machine. Not only were they able to entertain the large crowd with recent dancehall hits, including Beenie Man's Ever Clean, Popcaan's Clean, Demarco's Live My Life and Konshens' Bad Gal, but patrons also got a taste of dancehall's yester-week with Serani's Dying and more. In addition, the seductive Guinness girls created the perfect backdrop for patrons throughout the course of the night, to which even some women were overheard saying, "Dem bad, mi naw lie." Then it was the moment most had been waiting for: some minutes after 1:30 a.m., Spice finally hit the stage and the venue roared with excitement. Midway though one of her first tracks, Hundred Stab, she asked for a male patron to come onstage and demonstrate his dancing and wining abilities. Finally, one young man pounced from the audience on to the stage. "Give him a Guinness fi me," said Spice. The young man confidently cracked the cover of the stout with his teeth and did several quick gulps. "Yes, me want him feel the Guinness inna him belly," said Spice to the audience while rubbing his stomach. He was then ready to show the audience how he could impress the music industry's leading lady with his dance moves. "Ah wah him a do roun deh," asked Spice, still bent forward, with the patron dancing behind. "Him a gwaan good?" she continued, this time to the audience. "Nooooo," the audience cried. After several "nooooo" moments, Spice opted to teach the patron what she called the Guinness Greatness wine, and "you betta nuh mek me drop," she warned the eager male. Handing the mic to the selector, Spice ran towards the patron and in a split second, turned, jumped and wrapped her legs around his waist. The crowd went wild. Guinness and Spice then presented the brave male patron with Guinness gifts. Shortly after, the Slim Vs. Fluffy hit brought out another exciting competition. A fluffy diva took on several Guinness girls. Her skilful moves prompted the crowd to declare her the winner. Among the other highlights of the night were the performances of her new Body Great single and her hit, Jim Screechie. Says Spice: "Oh wow. It was such a great night! I got the chance to interact with my fans, give out some promotional items, like CDs and posters and the dancing by the Guinness girls and the patrons onstage were excellent. The whole thing was a lot of fun, so hats off to Guinness and the Flava Unit team. Great job." |
