A St Catherine resident is upset that his neighbour has classified his dog as a nuisance.

He said he is of the firm opinion that his neighbour does not like dogs.

"I am really fed up with my neighbour about his daily complaints and it is my firm opinion that he does not like dogs," he said.

"My neighbour complains that my dog barks too often and his barks disturb him night and day.

"I told him last month that I am paying mortgage for my house in Greater Portmore and I have no intention of getting rid of my dog which lives in my yard.

"I told him that he just has to live with the situation because my dog is a watch dog and so he cannot expect me to muzzle my dog. I told him that God made dogs to bark and human beings to talk so he should learn to appreciate animals.

"It would appear he was not happy with my comments because he threatened to take me to court over my dog. I told him that he was free to go because the judge knows that a dog must bark.

"Well, to my surprise, last week my neighbour gave me a letter which was written by a lawyer that if I did not control or get rid of the dog, he was going to take me to court for nuisance. I don't know how this could be possible because I don't see how a dog can be classified as being a nuisance," he said.

"Do you think my neighbour can take me to court over my dog?" he asked.

First, you must take into account that the houses in your community are close, therefore, if your dog barks frequently the dog can be found to be a nuisance.

There are rules and regulations governing some housing schemes and, in some, owners are prohibited from having dogs.
