Special Constable Jermaine Neufville was convicted in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment at hard labour or a fine of $200,000.

Reports are that in 2010, Neufville stopped a motorist for breaches of the Road Traffic Act on Derrymore Road, Kingston 10, and accepted US$20 along with J$500. The matter was later reported to the Anti-Corruption Branch and an investigation launched. He was subsequently arrested.

A file was sent to the director of public prosecutions who ruled that the policeman be charged.
