A decision by the Constitutional Court has overruled the prohibition by the correctional services and The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to prevent Leighton 'Livity' Coke from being seen by the doctor of his choice, Dr Jepthath Ford.

Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR outlines that Dr Ford had been denied entry to the Horizon Adult Remand Centre to examine Coke at his request, following an initial visit shortly after Coke was allegedly beaten severely by soldiers.

However, a ruling in the Constitutional Court on Wednesday led by arguments by attorneys-at-law Carolyn Reid-Cameron and Chuck Cameron overturned the disallowance reportedly effected by the JDF.

Furthermore, it was revealed that it was unconstitutional for the JDF to make such a ruling as that agency does not possess such powers.

"It establishes that inmates have a right to see doctors of their choice and the police nor the prison service has the right to deny access," Dr Ford reasoned to THE WEEKEND STAR.

He also explained that, "It is a major embarrassment to the army."
