Female passenger first road fatality for 2013

A female passenger became the first person to die in a motor vehicle crash this year after the car in which she was travelling collided with a Toyota Coaster bus on the Braco main road in Trelawny yesterday morning.

The name of the victim has not been released.

According to the police, the woman was travelling in a Nissan Tiida motor car towards Falmouth.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle which then skidded, spun and then slammed into the back of a Toyota Coaster bus.

The police say the road was wet at the time of the crash.

The woman who was in the back passenger seat of the car died on the spot.

Two other passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, residents in Braco are calling for the authorities to address the issue of speeding in the area.

They say the speed limit in one direction is 80 kilometres per hour while the limit in the other direction is 50 kilometres per hour.

They also want frequent police spot checks.
