National midfielder, Rohan Reid, has been surprisingly shown the door by Arnett Gardens' head coach Calvin Lewis after spending two-and-a-half seasons at the west-Kingston based club.

"Most definitely I will not play for Arnett Gardens for the rest of the season," Reid said.

"I don't really know the reason, but I guess that is just a part of football and the whole business. You can be at a club and then the club decides that they don't need your services anymore."

Reid, who represented three other clubs prior to Arnett, suffered an injury early in the season after tearing his right hamstring, during training, ahead of the second match in the first round. He recovered from his injuries and made two trips with the national beach football team, which he is also a part of, and was also a member of the Reggae Boyz squad that went to the Digicel Caribbean Cup.

return to the squad

He has, however, seen limited playing time at Arnett on his return to the squad. The 29-year-old utility player did feature in Arnett's most recent Red Stripe Premier League match on January 20, against Harbour View, but did not report for training subsequently, as he was unsure as to his future at the club.

"I was already planning to move, but when you are in an environment that you love when it's time for you to move on, it is always a tough decision for you to make," Reid sought to explain.

"So while I was at home I heard that they (Arnett) were cutting some players, because the budget is too high and I should get in touch with club management or coach."

When quizzed further, Reid admitted to there being recent developments that led to him contemplating leaving the club, but refused to divulge details.

"I had already made up my mind that I would not go back, because some things took place, but as a professional player I think whatever takes place in a club should stay in a club, so I will not disclose what it was," Reid said.

"Certain things are better left unsaid, but it has nothing to do with (Arnett's) management and the coach (Lewis) and I don't have anything either."

When Star Sports sought to find out from Lewis why Reid has been cut from the squad, he supplied the following response.

"For now it is more development," Lewis said.

"We want players that will go out there on a match day and do what you want. So if you have senior players and they are not doing that, start looking to the younger players."

The other players to have been released by Arnett so far are Gerald Neil, who had spent 16 years at the club, Ryan Powell, Odane Simpson, William Richards, Luke Suarez, Dennis McKinley and Orane Dixon.
