Cop held for robbery Another on the run

A special constable and a civilian were yesterday arrested during a joint operation carried out by personnel from the Westmoreland police and the Anti-Corruption Branch after allegations that they were involved in a robbery.

Reports indicate that a motor vehicle with three men was seen in Tank Hill, Negril, Westmoreland, yesterday. It is alleged that the men went to a premises where they held up and robbed people of an undetermined sum of money at gunpoint.

Shots were fired but no one was injured. A 9mm pistol was later found at the scene of the robbery.

The Westmoreland police responded to calls made regarding the robbery and were able to chase and apprehend the policeman, who is on interdiction, and the civilian.

The third man ran from the vehicle and has since managed to elude the police. However, it was later discovered that he is a police corporal assigned to the Anti-Corruption Branch in Montego Bay, but is on vacation leave.

All efforts are being made to locate him, police said.
