Special constable remanded

A special constable charged with wounding with intent was remanded in the Lucea Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday until March 5.

Special Constable Leary McCauley was charged following a probe conducted by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

On January 18 of this year, the Director of Public Prosecutions issued a ruling that he be charged in accordance with to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act.

He was arrested yesterday and brought before the Lucea Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to the charges.

An application was made to secure bail on his behalf, however, bail was denied.

According to INDECOM, the complainant alleged that he was shot and injured by McCauley in Wood Church district, Kingsvale, Lucea, on September 14, at approximately 3 p.m., while visiting his son.

He alleged that he was attacked without cause or provocation by McCauley, which led to him subsequently being shot and injured.

In contrast, the cop said that he acted in self defence after he was attacked by the complainant first. However, all witness accounts of the incident corroborated that of the complainant.
