Portmore close gap

Portmore United's Ewan Grandison - Colin Hamilton

Defending champions Port-more United kept up their pursuit of Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) leaders Harbour View after coasting to a 3-0 defeat of struggling Sporting Central at the Brancourt Sports Complex yesterday.

A brace by Suelea McCalla (3rd, 90+2) and another goal from Ewan Grandison (73rd) saw the St Catherine team take full advantage of their game in hand, after Harbour View had extended the lead to 13 points, following a 1-0 win over Humble Lion on Wednesday.

disappointing results

The win for Portmore also saw the team move back above second-place Boys' Town, as the Red Brigade, seemingly having put a string of disappointing results behind them, had leapfrogged Portmore and moved into second place, following a 1-0 win over rivals Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Wednesday.

In the day's other game Waterhouse, led by a brace from top scorer Jermaine Anderson (25th, 50th) defeated second end-of-round finalists Cavalier 2-0 to move into fourth place. With the win Waterhouse, who have gone unbeaten in their last four games, moved to 40 points, three behind third-place Boys' Town. Cavalier in the meantime, remain in seventh place having gone winless in their last five games.
