Cocoa Tea, Chronixx for Negril

Cocoa Tea

Bourbon Beach in Negril will come alive on Saturday, March 9, with the staging of Hurry Up & Come.

This event will feature the likes of top-flight reggae singer Cocoa Tea, new reggae sensation Chronixx and Jamaica's own human beat box, Mixing Lab.

Cocoa Tea has been a household name in reggae music since the late 1980s. He's known for soothing love songs and scathing social commentary. Cocoa Tea is also a very commanding stage performer who never fails to please his audience. His statesmanship is legendary, dating back from the early days of his career when he started out performing on Junjo Lawes' Volcano sound system in the late 1970s.

very vibrant career

Throughout the decades he has maintained a very vibrant career, largely because of his ability to deliver songs that connect with the masses. His awesome catalogue features timeless gems such as Rocking Dolly, She Loves Me Now, Rikers Island, I've Lost My Sonia, Hurry Up and Come, Israel King, Oil Ting, I'm Not A King and Good Life.

Chronixx is being touted as the hottest act in reggae music. It's almost impossible to turn on the radio or attend an event and not hear his music. Naturally, music lovers all over the island are eager to see him on stage, and the people in Negril will get their chance to see him come Saturday night.

While beat-boxing is not yet a popular art form in Jamaica, Mixing Lab is certainly doing his best to popularise it. He's always a hit wherever he performs and it is expected it will be no different when he touches the stage in Negril on Saturday.

Backing band for Hurry Up and Come will be the Roaring Lion Band. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., showtime 9 p.m. Admission is $1,200 presold and $1,500 at the gate, VIP is $2,000.
