Cop suspected of smuggling contraband
Andre' Williams, STAR Writer

Another policeman has found himself in hot water after his colleagues suspected that he was involved in a plot to take contraband to a prisoner at the St Ann's Bay lock-up.

Information reaching our news desk is that the constable is suspected of attempting to smuggle contraband to a prisoner on Monday shortly after 7 p.m. He was arrested and charged for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

Police reports are that the constable, who was off duty at the time of the incident, went to the station's cell block where he allegedly instructed another officer to hand a package to a prisoner.

THE STAR gathered that suspicions were aroused and the station supervisor notified and a search was conducted.

Our news team was told that the search unearthed a small quantity of ganja and cigarettes.

The policeman was subsequently arrested and charged.

A senior officer attached to the St Ann's Bay Police Station confirmed that the constable was charged on Tuesday.
