Muslim cleric, man hauled before the court

A trial date of March 25 was set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court after a Muslim cleric and another man were hauled before the court in a cross case matter.

Mohammed Abdul Jabbar is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and Sydney Robertson with malicious destruction of property.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, Abdul Jabbar was inside a car when Robertson served him a summons. Robertson allegedly threw the paper at Abdul Jabbar who lounged after him, choking him from behind. Robertson is alleged to have torn a section of the Muslim clothing said to be valued at US$120 (J$11,640).

Abdul Jabbar, who claims to be a private investigator and who is apparently known to Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey, was given a stern reprimand. A heated exchange developed between himself and the RM who told him, "I am wearing four buttons now, anytime you want touch mi, come," she said.

Both men return in late March.
