Teslyn King's walk with God

Pastor Teslyn King

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Female pastor Teslyn King is the overseer for the Faith Mission Church of God located at Sydenham in St Catherine. Her responsibilities have her overseeing branches at Lloyd's Pen in the parish as well as at Guava Ground in Clarendon, London in England, and in Fort Lauderdale in the United States of America.

It is now five years since King has been an overseer for her denomination, but her appointment to the post came after walking with and working for God for 48 years.

King's walk with God started after she migrated to England and got married.

"I realised that I had no peace. I thought that if I got married that I would have had peace, but there was no real peace inside, and my destiny was determined wrongly. I could not keep good health either. I wasn't happy, and I spoke to my sister," said King.

The church overseer pointed out that her sister, who was older than she, told her that the Lord wanted her and she would not have been at peace until she surrendered her life to Him, then everything would be good thereafter.

"I said to her, 'this is England. I don't want to serve the Lord in England. I never want to serve Him in Jamaica, so what about England.' She said, 'that's where you go wrong. you need to surrender your life.' So I decided to surrender my life to the Lord so that my destiny would change," said King.

The church overseer admitted that she was insecure before she gave her life to God. She said out that she was a shy individual who seldom went out because she didnt have a runaround lifestyle. King admitted that she thought that after arriving in England after leaving Jamaica, she would have had that type of lifestyle.

"I was really sheltered while I was in Jamaica. My mother sheltered me, so I said thank God I got away from there, and I was now going to tear away, but when I got to England, it was not the case," said King.

For the church leader, since she started her Christian journey, she has had many challenges. She said, however, when she accepted the Lord and got married, that was when she saw the other side of her husband.

"It was like he was saying, 'well, you are going to church now. thank God I can be the person I want to be. 'But it was like something from above went inside my heart. I could not do what I wanted to do. All the things I was afraid of, I realised that I began to love them. I realised that the life I was living was what God wanted me to have because I was happy despite the challenges around me," said King.

She said her early walk with God made it easier for her to understand what it meant to be a wife and even more so what it was to be a wife at her present age. The church leader added that due to her walk with the Lord, whenever she had differences with her husband, Earl, instead of shouting at him and fighting, or doing any such things, she would make the necessary adjustments.

King gave her favourite scripture as St John 3:16. Her favourite song is To God be the Glory, Great things He Has Done'.

King wants all those persons who are still out there and living a life of sin, especially those who are her age, to surrender to their Creator. She said although it might be a bit difficult for persons her age to give up what they are doing currently, for a Christian life, they should remember that with God, all things are possible.

King said that it is best to start serving the Lord at a young age because the older one gets is the more there will be to give up for God. However, she wants everyone to know that it does not matter what their age is because with God, all things are possible.
