Men charged for forcing witness to change statements

Two men who reportedly forced a woman to go to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to change her statement in a murder case pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Mark Harrison and Edwin Hibbert are charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and subsequently pleaded guilty before Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams.

It is reported that on the day of the incident, staff members at the DPP's office became suspicious after the woman entered the office, started to cry, and revealed to them what had happened.

One of the suspects was reportedly nabbed outside the DPP's office, while the other was apprehended in the downtown Kingston area several hours later.

Investigators believe the woman had been targeted because she gave evidence earlier last year in a case involving two men who were charged with murder.

At the end of the trial, one of the accused was convicted and the other ordered to stand trial again following a hung jury.

Both Harrison and Hibbert will return to court on November 14, at which point a social enquiry report will be completed.
