Newcomer 21-Strong won the Fenley Douglas-sponsored Waterford Corner League football match 5-4 on penalties in a pulsating final at the Waterford field last Sunday. The game ended 3-3 after full-time and went straight into penalties due to low light. Jermaine Taylor, Nicholas Scott, and Jermaine Gardener scored 21-Strong's goals, while Paul Wilson, Akeem Lee, and Gavin Campbell made sure the game headed to penalties. Shane Watson hit the winning penalty for 21-Strong, which triggered wild celebrations throughout the venue. At the end of the game, Fenley Douglas, the councillor for the Waterford division, handed over the winning trophy to the 21-Strong players. Douglas said that the competition had united the Waterford community, and the large crowd at hand suggested that that was a fact. "This is the biggest corner league competition in Portmore, and what an exciting final! what more could the crowd have asked for!" he said. He stressed that "next year, it would be bigger and better". |
