The Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA), in collaboration with INSPORTS, hosted a volleyball seminar for primary schools in Portmore recently. Steve Davis, the senior men's coach of JaVA, said that the association was targeting primary school students to raise the level of the sport in the island. With this in mind, JaVA held a seminar at Ascot Primary. The students were taught serving (underarm, overarm), passing (digging), volley pass, service reception, and spiking. Children from the participating schools were given the fun drills and it was a day well spent. Andrea Hanson, INSPORTS sports officer for Portmore, said that a one-day volleyball rally is aimed at arousing student interest in the sport is planned for next month. |
