WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man accused of taking $245,000 from a woman to buy a car and then failing to deliver on his promise, had his bail extended in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court Tuesday.

Brian Brown, a technician from Barrett Town, is charged with fraudulent conversion committed against Juliet Grey. He had his case deferred to April 16, in order to allow the prosecution time to complete its case file.

It is alleged that on an unspecified date, Grey had given $245,000 to Brown towards purchasing a car, but Brown did not deliver the car or give back the money. Grey made a report to the police and Brown was subsequently arrested.

Clerk of the Court Natalie Malcolm told Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tai that two statements had not been added to the case file.

"We are awaiting two statements, the arresting officer's statement and a statement from the brother of the complainant. The investigating officer is saying he will have those by the end of this week," said Malcolm.

"We will mention this matter on April 16," said RM Tai.
