Jamaica, Barbados Under-16s in crucial clash

ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):

Jamaica and Barbados clash today in a match that could decide the outcome of the 14th Jean Pierre Youth Tournament for Under-16 netballers.

Both teams are unbeaten, with Barbados recording three wins while powerhouse Jamaica has been victorious in all three of their matches as well.

The Bajans, on the hunt for the title they won two years ago, have already dismissed Dominica 35-24 following victories over St Vincent and Grenadines, 30-20, and 36-16 over St Kitts.

Jamaica's Under-16 netballers blew away Trinidad and Tobago 52-2 in their third match on Tuesday night after an effortless 48-5 victory over St Lucia and a 55-14 thrashing of Dominica in their opening match.

In their victory over Dominica on Tuesday, Barbados led throughout with a 9-6 advantage after the first quarter, 20-10 at the half-time break, and 26-18 after the third period.

Once again, it was captain and goal shooter Shaniqua Thomas who led from the front with 17 goals from 24 attempts.

She was, however, outscored by teammate Zakaiya Kirton who netted 18 goals from her 28 attempts.

Jamaica dominated Trinidad and Tobago 14-0, 30-1, and 43-1.
