Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A man accused of using a broom to hit a woman following a brief dispute was fined when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He is Dave Campbell, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

The accused man told the court that on the day in question, he was awoken from bed at approximately 4 a.m. by loud noises. It is alleged that Campbell made his way outside his house to investigate, approaching the complainant, requesting that she desist from disturbing the peace.

Subsequently, a brief altercation ensued, resulting in Campbell using a broom to hit the female complainant, causing injuries.

Seemingly unamused, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said, "And yu lick her? Yu give her a $10,000 lick?"

The sitting magistrate ordered the accused to pay a fine of $10,000 or serve six months in prison.
