A teacher from the Port Maria Primary School in St Mary is to appear in court later this month, as he was accused of punching a colleague in the face during a Sports Day event.

According to a statement released by the head of the parish's police, Superintendent Dean Johnson, while calculating the scores from the day's events last week, the teachers got into a fight in front of pupils and parents.

He said: "Clovis Menzies, 33, of Priory, St Ann, was arrested and charged by the Port Maria police for assault occasioning actual bodily harm on complainant Donald Parson, 56, of Hazelwood Drive in Highgate, St Mary, at the Port Maria Primary during Sports Day activities."

Supt. Johnson said both teachers had a dispute over the allotment of points from the events. It is alleged that while they argued, Parson was punched on the right side of his face, causing swelling and an abrasion.

Menzies is scheduled to appear in the Port Maria Resident Magistrate's Court today.
