A Clarendon man who was charged with the death of another man six years ago, was freed in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court after a successful no-case submission by his lawyer.

Omar Osbourne, 32, a barber, was charged with the death of Ryan Ricardo Ashley, a 30-year-old labourer of May Pen.

When the matter came up in court on Monday, attorney-at-law Earl Hamilton told the court that the Crown could not negate self-defence, therefore his client should get the benefit of the doubt.

The lawyer told the court that his client was attacked by the now deceased and was eventually stabbed with his own weapon.

The court heard that, in April 2010, the accused was standing on Stork Street in May Pen when he was attacked by the now deceased, who was then stabbed during a struggle. He was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation was launched and, about two years later, Osbourne was subsequently held by the police at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.
