Ellis slapped with five-day suspension

Former champion jockey Shane Ellis was recently slapped with a five-day suspension by the stewards for careless riding aboard hot favourite TOOTING CAT in the seventh race over the straight at Caymanas Park on March 15.

TOOTING CAT, who led to the last furlong, was narrowly beaten by the fast-finishing CLEARLY OURS, but following a stewards' inquiry, was disqualified and placed third for causing interference to third past the post DOUBLE DE CAT, after drifting out badly to the stands' side in the last 100 metres.

In addition, Ellis was fined $10,000.

Other disciplinary actions taken by the stewards following inquiries held at the Winchester Road offices of the Jamaica Racing Commission on Tuesday, April 1, are as follows: Champion jockey Dane Nelson, who rode ELUSIVE DREAM in the fourth race on Wednesday, March 5, was cautioned for the interference caused to RAJ KAPOOR approaching the 1600-metre mark.

Jockey Georgina Sergeon was cautioned for intimidatory riding aboard CANTARE in the sixth race on Sunday, March 16, this for causing interference to DI COBRE in the vicinity of the 300-metre point; and CANTARE again in the eighth race on Wednesday, March 5, this time for causing interference to FIERCEANDFABULOUS leaving the half mile.

Jockey Devon A Thomas, who rode KING YELLOW in the ninth race on Sunday, January 26, had his explanation accepted for the intimidation and interference to FLYING AZIMUT leaving the 200-metre point.

Apprentice Orlando Foster, who rode HOLOGRAM SHADOW in the second race on Wednesday, March 5, was fined $6,000 for the interference caused to JADA'SFABULOUSTOUR, approaching the 700-metre point of the course.
