Members of the Rastafarian community are set to march through the Corporate Area tomorrow in support of the legalisation of Marijuana.

The event will also take the shape of a rally, and will be held tomorrow in Trench Town.

"It is the first time Jamaica is taking part in a global legalise it 420 Campaign," Maxine Stowe told The STAR in a press release.

The Rastafari Millennium Council, which acts as the engine behind the march and rally, has also made a community submission to the Minister Of Justice and are hoping that their plight will be submitted in Parliament.

"We are part of the Ganja Growers and Producers Association, and many of the speakers will be updating the community. This will involve a lot of inner-city participants speaking on the relevance and underpinnings for a Ganja industry and the legalisation that must go hand in hand," Stowe said.

The march will commence at 10 a.m. at Mandela Park, and will conclude at Trench Town's Culture Yard by route of the Sir William Grant Park. The rally will commence at 2:30 p.m., and will feature guest speakers Nyahbingi and reggae music.

Legendary reggae artiste The Honourable Bunny Wailer is a known supporter of the movement for the legalisation of marijuana. The icon and last living member of The Wailer reggae band recently did a remake of the popular pro marijuana single, Legalise It.

The song now features Bunny Wailer, Andrew Tosh and audio excerpts from Bob Marley and Peter Tosh speaking in support of Ganga.

On January 1, Colorado opened its first retail marijuana shops, and raked in revenue of more than US$5 million in the first week of sales. Washington is expected to follow suit and open its first set of shops in June.

Other countries around the world have also been legalising/decriminalising marijuana. More recently, Uruguayan President José 'Pepe' Mujica was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for pioneering policies legalising the production and sale of marijuana under government control.
