A man who reportedly used a stone to hit a child, who was stealing guinep from his tree, was remanded when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Carlton Warner of a Kingston address.

According to reports, on June 12, the 10-year-old complainant climbed Warner's guinep tree without his permission and the accused allegedly threw a stone at the child, hitting him on his right cheek.

Warner told the court that the young boy would frequently steal from his fruit trees.

"This little boy family is like a Philistine; me kyah have nuttin inna me yard. This likkle boy, as small as him be is a teef!"

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey instantly berated the accused, "Yuh kyah use stone and fling and lick people pickney; you're gonna go to jail for it!"

She then asked the complainant's mother, "did you tell him not to go in the yard," and she responded, "yes, your honour."

RM Pusey proceeded to asked the boy to step closer and explain why he was in the tree. After hearing his response, she stated the "him seh him granny send him fi pick ackee and him feel fi two guinep and him climb the tree."

She then asked Warner, "as a boy yuh never climb anybody tree?" to which the accused responded, "No your honour!"

Warner explained to RM Pusey that it was never his intention to harm the boy.

"I throw the stone to scare him off the tree," he said.

"Not that it's (stealing), right but yuh must use the correct approach."

Warner is to return to court on July 21.
