Jeffrey Webb, the president of regional football body CONCACAF, says it is highly important for the region to continue to learn new trends for the development of women's football.

"This (women's coaches course) is so important for us in the region to continue to learn of new trends as the game is changing, especially scientifically," Webb, who is also a FIFA vice-president said during the opening ceremony of the FIFA/Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Women's football coaching course at the JFF centre, UWI, yesterday.

"We in the region need to step up. We must engage and fully take the knowledge provided by FIFA instructor Dawn Scott," he added.

"It's so important as coaches to capture the imagination of players as we don't know how it will impact on their lives. If we don't, we will fail. So many people are trusting you with their kids. Let Jamaica be the first female country in the English-speaking Caribbean to qualify for a Women's World Cup," Webb concluded.

Webb also told STAR Sports that each of the 41 countries in CONCACAF are granted US$100,000 per year towards their women's football programme.

Meanwhile, Captain Horace Burrell, JFF president urged the coaches to play their role in the development of local women's football.

He wished the coaches all the best during the week-long course that started yesterday.

"At the end, all our graduates must leave with great honour," the JFF president who was confirmed for another four-year term at the Congress in Montego Bay, St James two days ago, said.

Dawn Scott, FIFA instructor who will be in charge of the coaching course that ends on Friday says her job is to pass on knowledge to the coaches.

"I want to pass on my knowledge as I'm excited to be here. My background is being with the England women's team for nine years and currently working with the USA team for the past five years. I am looking for an exciting fun-filled week," Scott said.
