A man who is accused of swindling a woman for more than $90,000 by telling her that he could secure overseas employment on her behalf was remanded until August 4 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Charged with obtaining money by false pretences is Jason Clarke.

The Crown alleged that the complainant was told by the accused that he could secure a job in Trinidad on her behalf. She gave him the sum of $93,000, but the complainant was not given the job and the money was not returned.

The complainant eventually travelled to Trinidad but had to buy her own ticket to return after complications developed when the first ticket was suspended.

The complainant spotted the accused man at a Corporate Area university, confronted him, and asked him for her money. He ran away, was chased, and later held by the police.

He allegedly told them, "officer mi we give her back her money, but mi nuh have it now."

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey had Clarke remanded in order to verify claims he made of overseas connections to secure jobs.
