Jamaica U-15s must maintain momentum - Senior

Jamaica Under-15 captain Raewin Senior believes following through on their opening win will be vital if they are to win the West Indies Under-15 Championship.

The Jamaicans, led by a sterling all-round performance from Senior, defeated Barbados by three wickets in their opening game on Tuesday at Up Park Camp, and will today play the Windward Islands in their second game at Kensington Park.

"Our main objective is to win the competition, and the first match is just one-fifth of the competition," said Senior.

"The work, therefore, has just started, and we need to follow through."

Jamaica, who finished fifth in the six-team competition last year, won their first game after restricting Barbados 219 for eight off their 50 overs.

Senior, bowling left-arm spin, claimed three for 38, to emerge as Jamaica's top bowler, while off-spinner Duke Reid, two for 27, provided best support.

In the host's turn at the crease, they were able to amass 220 for seven, with 16 balls remaining. Senior, batting at number four, made a boundary-filled 69, and vice-captain Dominik Samuels, 54.

"It was a good start, and one that we wanted," said Senior. "We just now have to remain down to earth, and focus on the next game."

The Windwards, runners up last year, lost their opening match to title-holders Trinidad and Tobago by six wickets, also on Tuesday.
