EUGENE, Oregon:

World Youth Champion Jaheel Hyde has promised that there could be something special in store when he takes the track for the 400m hurdles semi-finals and final today at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene (Hayward Field), Oregon.

" You are all going to see, there will be something special," Hyde said following the event's opening Heat yesterday.

The athlete ended up in second place in the preliminary round, after shuffling at the final hurdle. The sprinter is nonetheless confident of navigating his way through today's semis and putting on a classy performance in the final, in a similar vein to the run that saw him claim gold in the Boy's 110 metres Hurdles in Ukraine.

"I was very comfortable throughout the race but I had a little problem at the final hurdle as the wrong leg came up first, but I am not worried. I achieved my first objective by advancing to the next round," Hyde said.

Several Jamaican athletes complained of weather conditions yesterday, which dipped to as low as 17 degrees Celsius in some parts, but the hurdler remained unperturned, insisting it is a part of the package.

" It was a bit cold, but everybody is running under the same conditions. I am not complaining as that is part of track and field. If you want to become a professional in the sport, you have to compete in these types of conditions," said Hyde.
