One of two accused swindlers remanded

Two men accused of swindling an unsuspecting woman out of her hard earned cash, promising her high end wristwatches, but supplying her with counterfeit versions instead, were hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Charged with larceny by trick are Sowdane McKenzie and Jason Kameka.

Allegations are that on June 26, the female complainant gave the accused men US$20,000 and J$100,000 to purchase one Cartier watch and one Hublot watch. Much to the complainant's dismay, she was reportedly displeased as the products purported to be genuine, however, turned out to be poor bogus versions of the products she intended to purchase. It is said that she demanded her money back from the men, but was never refunded.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Kameka further remanded while McKenzie had his bail extended. Both men are to reappear in court on August 30 for a mention hearing.
