Man robbed of party earnings
DEON P GREEN, STAR Writer

A man who hosted a round robin 'drink out party', as it was dubbed was reportedly robbed of the proceeds by gunmen on the weekend in St Thomas.

Reports reaching The Star are that the victim, a 44-year-old taxi driver of Lyssons in the parish, hosted one of the regular street parties in John's Town on Friday night.

Following the event in the wee hours of the morning, he was relieved of almost $100,000, allegedly by gunmen who pounced on him in the remote district on the outskirts of Morant Bay.

The Star understands that the bandits struck while the victim was counting the proceeds of the event.

Brown reported to the police in the parish that one of the alleged attackers was armed with a gun. The men demanded the money and in fear for his life Brown handed over the proceeds as the men ran off with the loot.

The Morant Bay Criminal Investigation Branch is now investigating the reported robbery.

In the meantime, the police in St Thomas are urging others who host similar events to exercise extreme caution in exposing or carrying large amounts of cash during and from such events.
