Cop accused of rape remanded

A policeman who is accused of attempting to kill his wife and raping her niece was again remanded when he reappeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court Tuesday.

He is Andre Thomas, 26-year-old of the St Thomas police division.

When the matter came up for mentioned, an attorney who represented the accused, made a lengthy bail application which was unsuccessful.

It is being alleged that the accused man took his spouse to an undisclosed location where he beat her and attempted to light tyres on her. The woman begged for her life, which was spared.

He reportedly went to the house a day later where he allegedly raped the woman's teenage female relative. A report was made against the policeman and an investigation was launched.

A file was compiled and sent to the offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions and a ruling handed down. He is to return to court on August 19 when the matter will again be mentioned.
