A Jamaica Urban Transit Company driver who was held by the company's Revenue Protection Department with money suspected to have been stolen, was granted a bail extension until next month in the Corporate Area resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He is Milton Reid from Spanish Town, St Catherine.

When the matter was mentioned in the court, it was put off until August 19, 2014, for further mention. Reid was represented by attorney-at-law Hugh Thompson, on the instruction of Earl Hamilton.

It is being alleged that, on July 7, police and JUTC revenue personnel were informed of illegal activities on the bus. The team went to South Parade where the vehicle was spotted and placed under surveillance.

When it reach Caymanas in St Catherine, it was intercepted and passengers and the driver were searched. Three tickets that were earlier used were discovered on passengers who said Reid gave it to them.

During a search of the ticket machine, which should have had $9,700, it was found with $10,500. Reid could not give a satisfactory explanation about the discrepancy.

He was subsequently charged with embezzlement by Detective Corporal Kirk Roache.
