Voicemail to split? Duo working on solo projects

On the heels of a name change of one of its members and both artistes confirming that they are indeed working on solo projects, rumours have began circulating that dancehall duo Voicemail are headed for a split.

When contacted, member Kevin Blair would neither confirm nor deny the split.

"We are doing solo EP projects. For me, I just want to do my own thing right now. People know Voicemail for happy songs, and I kinda want to do songs that aren't necessarily Voicemail songs. I want to go in a different direction," he told THE STAR.

Blair, who is set to release his first solo effort titled Back for the First (Time) in 2015, added that they still have obligations to the group.

"We still have some performances to do, but the main focus right now is on our individual projects," he stated.

The other member, Craig Jackson, who now uses the moniker Qraig, stated that they were both trying to rebrand and reinvent their individual brands.

"My EP is titled ME, which stands for My Evolution. There's really no big story behind my name, I just wanted a change and that's why I changed the spelling," Qraig said.

My Evolution is slated to be released in November and will be a fusion of reggae, R&B with elements of dancehall.

"I think Voicemail has done everything where dancehall and reggae music is concerned, so we are just trying to rebrand and reinvent our individual styles," he told THE STAR.

Blair also wished Qraig success in his endeavours.

"Qraig is doing his own thing and I wish him all the best. I'm just focused on getting my EP out and getting fans to hear what I have to offer," he said.
