Contractor Music Marketing sponsored the live broadcast of Irie FM's Marcus Garvey Tribute Celebration.

Marcus Garvey and his organisation, Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), represent the largest mass movement in African-American history. Proclaiming a black nationalist 'Back to Africa' message, Garvey and the UNIA established 700 branches in 38 states by the early 1920s.

This year's celebration had added significance as it marked the 100th anniversary of UNIA.

The celebration took place last Sunday in the Irie FM Courtyard, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.. The entire broadcast was shown live via the station's website iriefm.net.

Entertainers such as Bushman, Bongo Herman, Brother Desmond aka Ninja Man, Nature, Keznamdi, Chezedek, Kelissa, Teflon, Iba Mahr, Hezron, Don Husky and others paid tribute to Garvey.

Veteran artiste Capleton impressively closed the show in front of a full capacity.

The proceedings also featured a parade of uniformed groups from Ocho Rios. Live entertainment came from L'Acadco, Carifolk Singers and a festival of Nyahbinghi and communication drums.

The celebration was hosted by Andrea Williams Green, Kshema Francis, Mutabaruka, Amina Blackwood Meeks and Denise Isis Miller.

Sean 'Contractor' Edwards, boss of Contractor Music Marketing, said it was an honour to have partnered with Irie FM on such an important occasion in Jamaica.

"It is a privilege to be a part of such movement. What Garvey did was very important, so I am very pleased to have partnered with Irie for such event," he said.
