D-Medz honours Garvey with song

Porus Music Awards' artiste of the year, D-Medz, is still revelling in what he called "a commanding performance" he delivered at last Sunday's United Negro Improvement Association's (UNIA), Marcus Garvey awards at Devon House in Kingston.

D-Medz, who performed alongside international recording artiste Sizzla, Iyaka, D'Burns and the Mama Kaffee Drummers, says he brought the house down with a rendition of his yet to be released black conscious single Rebel Souljah, in honour of the national hero and internationally recognised black activist, Marcus Garvey.

"I delivered a well-accepted performance, I brought the house down with Rebel Souljah," D-Medz said in a post-performance interview with The Star. "It's a beautiful feeling to perform at such a prestigious event in honour of arguably the greatest black man and first national hero, Marcus Garvey. To be specially invited by Steven Golding was more than an endorsement."

He explained that Rebel Souljah is a spiritual song, specifically composed to appeal to Africans at home and abroad. The single, which is yet to have its official release, is produced by Zimbabwean production house, Arab Tribe Music and is doing well in Africa.

D-Medz is also upbeat about his upcoming October European tour, a new EP, his single, Road Tonight, and his other hit, Baby MammaDrama, which he says is doing well on a number of local charts.

Road Tonight has just hit the number 12 spot on the Richie B's big countdown chart. Number 16 on the Blacka's top 20 chart and 6 on the ITVX's top ten charts," D-Medz told The Star.

He added, "I am currently working on a new EP and finalising arrangements to shoot a video for Baby MammaDrama and the European tour in October, so career-wise, things are falling into place right now. I am getting there."
