Sprinter Raheem Chambers advanced to the men's 100 metres final at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, yesterday.

The 17-year-old Chambers secured his place after winning heat two in 10.68 seconds on yesterday's second day of track and field action. However, Chambers is a doubtful starter for tomorrow's final. He held his hamstring about 10-metres before the line and had to be helped to his feet at the end of the race.

Chambers, if he competes, will enter the final with the fourth-fastest qualifying time.

Trae Williams of Australia sped to 10.51 in heat four to clock the fastest time going into the final. Meanwhile, Jamaica's representative in the women's 100m, Shanice Reid, failed to make progress in the A final, despite finishing third in heat three.

Reid's time, 11.86, was the ninth-fastest time overall. Only the top eight on time advance to the A final. Reid will run in the B final tomorrow. Ewa Swoboda of Poland clocked 11.30 to register the fastest time going into the women's final.

Obrian Wasome booked his place in the final of the mens' long jump competition with a leap of 7.13m. Wasome's had the seventh-best jump going into Sunday's final.

Meanwhile, in beach volleyball, Rojey Hutchinson and Shavar Bryan went down 2-1 to New Zealand's Nate Moore and Kahurangi Robinson in their Pool B preliminary-round game yesterday. The pair will be hoping for better luck today when they take on Lithuania.
