Man killed in Coaster bus fight

A fight which broke out aboard a Coaster bus on Wednesday in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, has left one man dead and another nursing injuries, while a woman is being held for her involvement in the fracas.

Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that the deceased man, Nelvin Hunter, 30, from Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew, and another man were involved in a dispute during which a woman entered the altercation and allegedly stabbed the man.

The police said the man retaliated by fatally stabbing Hunter.

Though it was not clear what started the dispute, THE WEEKEND STAR learnt that the incident took place about 3:45 p.m. along North Odeon Avenue.

Passengers aboard the bus were sent scampering, some using the bus windows exit as knifes were drawn and those involved in the tussle swung wildly at each other with the sharp weapons.

A witness said: "The man weh get the worse part of the stabbing never look like him did ago mek it at all. Him jus' come out of the bus and drop down. Mi see him a hold his side and bare tings a run out."

The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the information arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), confirmed the incident.

According to the CCU, Hunter and the injured man were taken to hospital when the police were summoned to the scene.

He died while the other man remains in stable condition at a hospital.

The identity of the woman in the matter is being withheld.
