Gov't needed to reason with the people!

Kiss mi neck back, excitement tun up inna Jamaica again! There never seems to be a dull moment in this country, cause if anno one ting a cause the problem, is the next! When anno people a stress yuh, an drive fear inna yuh, is the system! Seems like every weh yuh tun, macka or increase jook yuh!

Of course, nuff people a screw over the latest increase of the bus fares, and it naa go down well with the public at all. Especially since the elderly ago get lick hard inna dem wrinkles wid the new increase weh come into effect last week. I'm all for doing what is necessary fi mek the country run better and more efficiently, but not at the expense of those who can barely afford it as it is right now.

Many of these same senior citizens have to make regular visits to the doctor using the same public transportation. Picture the one dem who haffi go fi dialysis every week. The extra money weh dem coulda use fi buy a drink and a biscuit haffi now go toward paying dem fare! For parents and children who haffi tek bus, an increase at this time is creating a lot of unease fi dem!

fare increase

Mi see Andrew Holness and the JLP dem march peacefully against this bus fare increase. But mi naa lie, mi swear seh more people did a go come out because the way the crowd did tun up wah day yah when dem did come out fi the gay one!

Cause one ting mi know bout Jamaicans, which is very sad, when it comes to people business, we tend fi be head cook and bottle washer! Yet the real tings dem weh affect we, wi no roll out and support as often and vehemently as we should.

But while it is encouraging that the Opposition is active on the front line, mi a wonda if the protest, even a peaceful one, could have been averted. Like seh if the Government did put it to the people first with reasoning and explanations backa it, explain out fully why such an increase and the amount is necessary at a time like this and to show how the country will benefit from such an increase.

Gone are the days when people just ago sup tings and suck salt through wooden spoon just suh, enuh! Nowadays, even if people ago sup, dem want a seat and cool shade! The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) seems fi have many areas weh need fi fix, and it shouldn't seem as if everytime a matter needs to be remedied is the people haffi bear it.

financial hemorrhage

There were measures put in place earlier this year to stop the financial hemorrhage that the company was experiencing, we need fi know if dem deh did work or help at all. The country needs accountability and transparency, and mi think even though it rough, people woulda able understand more.

This is not about 'politicking' this is about people's lives. The lives of the people who make up both governing and opposing parties. At the end of the day, we are all Jamaicans, and any decision being made should have that as its pillar and purpose!

Speaking of politicians, let me just extend my condolences to the family of the late Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Roger Clarke. Mi naa lie, when mi hear seh him pass, mi cry, because him a one politician who everybody love, whether yuh say green or orange! He was affable, and quite the statesman, who will be missed. Glad seh him legacy will live on. Walk good, Roger ... rest in peace.
