Court proceedings moved to chambers after incident

Court proceedings at the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court was disrupted on Saturday following a wasps attack on the presiding Resident Magistrate.

It was about 11:00 a.m.,when Resident Magistrate Lyle Armstrong seated in one of the two courtrooms.

One of the many wasps on the many nests on the building scared the RM.

Police personnel on duty sprayed the nest with insecticide, however, this resulted in an additional problem.

The Clerk of Court who is in an advanced stage of pregnancy could hardly stand the noxious odour.

Therefore, the officers of the court had to be relocated to the RM's chambers where some of the matters were heard.

"There is the need to have the court houses rid of any pest, be it wasp, bees or even ants. Our RMs are far too important to the justice system for wasps to disrupt court proceedings," a lawyer told THE STAR,

Meanwhile, several persons told THE STAR that they have been stung by wasps while attending court hearings. It is the consensus that more needs to be done to rid the 'the walls of justice' of the pests.
