One arrested in attempted robbery

The swift action of lawmen in the Corporate Area yesterday led to the arrest of one of two men who attempted to rob a prominent business place in Cross Roads, Kingston 5. A security guard was also shot and injured by the assailants during the incident.

Reports from the Cross Roads police are that about 10:00 a.m., two men, one armed with a firearm entered the establishment and ordered the proprietor to hand over money and other valuables. An altercation ensued and a security guard who intervened was shot and injured. The assailants however, managed to steal a cell phone, and an undetermined amount of cash and a gold bracelet.

Lawmen, who were nearby, responded and accosted one of the men as well as the stolen items. A .38 revolver was also seized during the incident. The security guard was taken to hospital and has been admitted in stable condition.

The identity of the man in custody is being withheld pending further investigations; police are now searching for the other suspect.
