Elderly woman brought before the court for larceny

An elderly woman who allegedly suffers from Alzheimer Disease, was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to larceny charges on Monday.

Charged with simple larceny is 69-year-old Avis Clarke of a Dela Vega City, St. Catherine, address.

It is alleged that on August 25 around 1:20 p.m., Clarke entered the Hilo Food Store in Pavillion Mall, Half-Way-Tree and stole two boxes of oats from the supermarket.

She was accosted by security and subsequently arrested and charged.

Her attorney told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, "she has a disease of the mind, she suffers from Alzheimer."

Clarke's son, who accompanied her to court, was ordered by RM Pusey to take her to the doctor to get a medical certificate to verify that she suffers from the disease.

She is to return to court on September 8 when the medical certificate will be presented.
