A man who presented a false job letter in a bid to acquire a US Visa was fined over $100,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud, forgery, possession of forged documents and uttering forged documents is 22-year-old Gavel Edmond of Johns Hall, St James.

According to reports on July 31 about 11:30 a.m., Edmond attended an interview at the US Embassy for a non-immigrant visa, during the interview he presented a letter purporting that he was employed to a Xerox Company in Montego Bay, St. James.

The same day, contact was made with the institution and it was revealed that Edmond was not an employee.

He was fined $50,000 or six months for the offence of uttering forged documents; $20,000 or six months for conspiracy to defraud; $20,000 or six months for possession of forged documents; and, $20,000 or six months for forgery.
