A man accused of making promises to supply two Samsung cellular phones, making off with the potential buyer's hard-earned money, had his bail extended when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

Charged with obtaining money by false pretence is 20-year-old Chevon Byfield of a Majesty Gardens, Kingston 11 address. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Arrangements made

Allegations are that, on July 25, the female complainant made arrangements with the accused to sell her two Samsung Galaxy S5 cellular phones for $75,000.

It is believed that she met with the accused man,

handed over the sum and was told that she would receive both phones shortly.

The accused, however, was nowhere to be seen thereafter, as he failed to hand over the phones as promised, or return the complainant's money.

Apprehension

On August 28, the complainant reportedly arranged with a friend and police officers to apprehend the accused man at the same location at which the offence took place. The accused was pointed out by the complainant to police personnel, who later accosted and took him into custody at the Hunts Bay Police Station. Subsequently, the accused man had his bail extended by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, who ordered him to return to court on October 8 for trial.
