Western Bureau: Petersfield High defeated Manning's School 2-1 in yesterday's rescheduled ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup football competition to go joint first with Godfrey Stewart High in Group D.

Manning's took the lead in the 35th minute through Rodaine Smith, but the Delroy Delisser-coached Petersfield responded in fine style three minutes later when standout Akeem Whyte netted the equaliser in the 38th minute.

Petersfield then went in front to stay when Melvin McKenzie headed past Kaseem Wedderburn at his near post in the 80th minute to complete the comeback and three vital points.

"This was a win we needed to join Godfrey Stewart at the top of the group, and we fought all the way, which is what this Petersfield team is about," said Delisser.

Petersfield moved to seven points from three matches, the same as former champions Godfrey Stewart, while Manning's are winless after two outings, with only a point from their encounter with Black River High on the competition's opening day.
