Waterhouse look to turn back DC

Marc Stamp, STAR Writer

Waterhouse FC will be seeking to remain in contention in Zone 4 of the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) when they face Major League Soccer (MLS) club DC United at the National Stadium today. Kick-off time is 7 p.m.

Having lost 1-0 to DC United a month ago at the RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, Waterhouse are fully beware that only a win can maintain any hope of advancing to the quarter-final stage.

Waterhouse lead the race in the zone with six points from three games. DC United are on three points from their only game. Panama's Tauro, the other team in the group, are without a point.

Jamaica's lone club remaining in the CCL will end its schedule in the group stage tonight, while DC United have two remaining games against Tauro on September 24 at RFK and October 30 in Panama.

"It is very important for us to win the game tomorrow," coach of Waterhouse, Anthony Patrick, said at a press conference at the National Stadium hospitality room yesterday. "We have a good squad of youngsters and experienced players that can win against DC," he added.

Patrick also said the game won't be easy, although it is a home fixture. "This game will be a tough challenge. They beat us in the first game, so we need to win here," Patrick emphasised.

The Waterhouse coach told STAR Sports that former St George's College and national youth star, Cardel Benbow, could make his debut after signing for the club two weeks ago.

"It's more than likely that he (Benbow) could be in the squad and play at some stage tomorrow," Patrick told STAR Sports.

Benbow, if included, could join national senior players such as Jermain Anderson, Kenardo Forbes, Upstan Edwards, Romario Campbell, Nicholi Finlayson and Evan Taylor, as well as captain Damarley Samuels, Hughan Gray, veteran goalkeeper Richard McCallum, Vincent Earle and Juvaune Benjamin.

Meanwhile, DC United's Ben Olsen said his team will be seeking a win.

"I'm looking forward to an entertaining match, as we have a lot of respect for them (Waterhouse), " Olsen added.

Entrance fees for tonight's game are: grandstand: adults - $800 and students with IDs - $600. Bleachers: $300.
