Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A self-proclaimed sex worker accused of wounding and attempting to rob another woman, had her bail extended when she appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Charged with intent to rob and unlawful wounding is Angela Wright.

It is alleged that on May 21 at approximately 12:15 a.m., the female complainant who was going about her business, was approached by the accused who called her a number of derogatory names. In response to the verbal onslaught, it is believed that the complainant responded in a similar fashion. It is believed that Wright then allegedly used a knife to cut the complainant, while attempting to make off with her handbag.

"What kind of work you do ma'am?" inquired Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.

"On the road," replied Wright.

Seemingly confused, RM Pusey made further inquiries.

"Sex work both of us do ma'am" Wright blurted.

This revelation was met with much delight by members of the gallery, who laughed heartily.

The female complainant however, sought to defend herself by hastily correcting the accused woman.

"I'm a cosmetologist your honour!" she said.

Subsequently, Wright had her bail extended by the sitting magistrate. She was ordered to return to court on October 29 pending an outstanding medical report. A fingerprint order was also made.
