Phone thief gets three months in prison

A man who is accused of stealing a woman's cellular phone recently, was sentenced to three months in prison when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Pleading guilty to simple larceny and possession of an unlawful weapon, is Damion Downer of a Kingston address.

According to reports, the complainant was walking in Half-Way-Tree when the accused grabbed her cellular phone and then robbed her.

Downer told the court that he regreted his actions. "It was a deep mistake when I rob her of the phone."

It was also revealed that this was Downer's second visit to the Corporate Area Court. He was then asked by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey to provide her with a reason he should not be sent to prison.

He responded, "I'm not known to be a threat to people on the road your honour."

After hearing his response, RM Pusey stated, "stay with the government for three months," he was also fined $4,000 or 30 days for the possession of an unlawful weapon charge.
