Simpson in control

JAMAICAN jockey Trevor Simpson won three stakes races at Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, on his way to five victories last weekend, moving clear atop the standings with 11 wins.

The five-time Jamaican champion leads countryman Larris Allen by three winners in Lethbridge's Fall Meet standings.

Allen won Lethbridge's Spring Meet, beating Simpson by five wins, as a result of having ridden more Quarter horse winners. He also won the summer title at Evergreen Park.

However, Simpson seems intent on dethroning Allen and dominated Lethbridge's Alberta Bred weekend.

He started the weekend tied on six wins with another Jamaican, Blandford Stewart, and got off the mark in Friday's third race astride LANGFUHR'S STAR, beating Allen on MARRY ME NEXT.

Stewart's lone weekend winner was MONTERO LAD on Sunday.

On Saturday, Simpson had stakes wins aboard GO FOR THE GOLD and LOST MY AURA. He took his stakes-winning form to Sunday, scoring with IM HOTT UR NOTT.

GO FOR THE GOLD won Saturday's third race, the Alberta Bred Three Year Old Fillies Stakes, beating Stewart on NORTHERN LIGHTS, a CAD$8,000 event at six furlongs.

Simpson added LOST MY AURA to his tally in the fifth, the Alberta Bred Fillies and Mares Stakes, CAD$8,000, at five-and-a-half furlongs.

On Sunday, he booted home IM HOTT UR NOTT in the Stakes Cup Classic, CAD$8,400, at 400 yards. He rounded off his weekend of winners in the next race with PROMISCUOUS LAD, beating Phillip Clunis on GOLDEN CHAPEL..

Meanwhile, Allen won Saturday's Alberta Bred Stakes with HE'S ITALIAN and returned to land Sunday's Canada Cup Futurity Consolation with RAGING WAVE, CAD$8,440, at 350 yards. He rounded off a two-timer with AT THE BADA BING in the third race.
