Classy Maragh wins Black Type race

JAMAICAN jockey Rajiv Maragh continues to hold his own among the best jockeys in the world, booting home a three-timer at Belmont Park, Elmont, New York, last Sunday, including INVADING HUMOR in the Black Type US$125,000 John Hettinger Stakes at nine furlongs.

He followed up Sunday's three-timer by winning aboard BOSTON STRONG in Wednesday's ninth race, taking his tally, up to Thursday, to seven winners and joint fourth in the standings with Manuel Franco and John Velazquez.

Joel Rosario and Javier Castellano led the standings with 11 winners apiece, heading into Thursday's meet.

Maragh won Sunday's first two races aboard SHAYJOLIE and DESERT IMAGE, respectively, before landing the nine-furlong fillies and mares John Hettinger Stakes with INVADING HUMOR.

SHAYJOLIE won an allowance, three-year-old and upward, fillies and mares, US$77,000 at six and a half Furlongs.

DESERT IMAGE topped a maiden claiming, two-year-old fillies, US$52,000 event at five-and-a-half furlongs.

Maragh finished 10th in Belmont's Spring/Summer meet with 23 wins from 170 starts, before racing moved to Saratoga. His mounts earned US$1.77m. He enjoyed a 14 per cent win ratio and had 77 top-three finishes for 45 per cent in the money.
